The Center for Teaching through Children’s Books (CTCB) will offer a one-day Summer Institute workshop for teachers, librarians, and children’s book authors and illustrators on June 22, 2010 at the North Shore Campus of National-Louis University. Visual literacy, information literacy, media literacy, digital literacy. Our students need all of these in order to navigate the world of the 21st century. Candace Fleming, award-winning author of The Lincolns: A Scrapbook Look at Abraham and Mary (2008) and many other titles, has perfected a scrap-book format that draws on and teaches multiple literacies. Featured speaker at the Institute, Fleming will share with participants her research process for multiple literacies. Presenters include: Gail Bush (Information Literacy), Junko Yokota (Visual Literacy), and Toby Rajput (Media and Digital Literacies).

Cost: $100 per person (includes the Institute registration fee and lunch). A reduced registration fee is available for groups. Early bird registrants will receive a free copy of a children’s book by Candace Fleming. CPDUs will be available.
