Abstract
This study investigated the impact vocabulary games have on word learning, word retention and motivation to learn words for 6th grade students. Twenty-nine students participated in this study, 22 EO students and 7 ELLs. Quantitative and qualitative data included a repeated ANOVA, independent t-tests, researcher observations, a Likert Survey, and student interviews. Findings showed vocabulary games did have a positive impact on motivation to learn new words. Vocabulary games did not have a significant impact on word learning or word retention over time, but did have a positive impact on vocabulary knowledge.
